Hi, I’m Kirsten.

As well as a Registered Associate Nutritionist, I’m also a Registered General Nurse with over 25 years’ experience of working closely with people to improve their health and wellbeing across a variety of settings, including the NHS, corporate and education.

For as long as I can remember I’ve had a fascination with food and nutrition.  As a teen, cooking was a way to pass the time (think pre mobile phones and Ready Steady Cook) and I loved that by following the logical steps of a recipe, I could create something delicious!

About me.

  • Caring for others.

Helping others has always felt second nature to me. After qualifying as a nurse in the 1990s, I worked in a number of specialist areas, including plastic surgery, practice nursing and colposcopy, and then most recently for Public Health at Hertfordshire County Council. I’ve always found the one-to-one interaction with patients immensely rewarding. It’s a real privilege to care for someone well and to go that extra mile so they feel fully informed about their health and treatment. You really can’t beat the feeling you get from caring for others.

  • Specialist knowledge.

Throughout my nursing career I developed a real interest in the positive role nutrition can play in improving both our physical and mental wellbeing. But I also found myself becoming increasingly frustrated by the confusing messages in the media about diet and nutrition. I could see how difficult it was for people to make the best decisions for their health. So, I decided I wanted to gain that specialist knowledge for myself and share it with others. It therefore felt like an entirely natural step when I took the plunge and studied for my MSc in Applied Human Nutrition in 2017. And I’m so glad I did!

  • Dream job.

I can honestly say that in launching MyNutriMatters, I’ve found my dream job. I love working one-to-one with clients to really understand their needs, and seeing the impact my advice can have on their physical and emotional wellbeing is incredibly fulfilling. I feel extremely lucky to be doing a job I feel so passionate about.

  • With my medical background, my recommendations are always thoroughly researched and evidence based. I really enjoy getting into the science behind the guidance to then be able to share this in a clear, simple way with clients. I’m also committed to continuous professional development and I consider myself to be a lifelong learner.

  • I enjoy keeping up-to-date with the latest nutrition research and trends, and also learning through practical experiences, such as shadowing fellow nutritionists experienced in the menopause arena or providing additional help at the nearby healthy lifestyles programme.  I love the buzz that surrounds food, so I actively seek out new experiences to keep me inspired. I’m currently volunteering in my local secondary school food technology classes, for example, which has been great fun.

I’m also a woman in midlife – a busy mum to three teenagers, with pets, a home to run and family a fair distance away. So, my approach comes from a place of experience in many of the issues you may be encountering.

  • But, that aside, my advice is always entirely bespoke. I take the time to fully understand your ‘why’ for seeking help and to really listen to your needs and concerns.  My nutrition and lifestyle plans are created to be easy to follow and entirely tailored to your lifestyle. There’s no point introducing complex changes that don’t fit in with your day-to-day living – that’s a recipe for disappointment!

Together we’ll agree changes that can be easily incorporated into your daily routine. I want you to gain the confidence, knowledge and practical skills to sustain the changes you have made.

By working with me you will really have an opportunity to invest in yourself.
